Artist: Korn
Song: Falling Away From Me
Year: 1999
Album: Issues
I went to see Korn at the Congress Theater in Chicago, Illinois on February 24, 2012. This is video from that performance. I am somewhere in the crowd to the right and more towards the front of the person who took this video. The mosh pit formed next to where I was standing, to my right. Good times!
Lyrics:
Hey, I'm feelin' tired
My time is gone today
You flirt with suicide
Sometimes that's okay
Do what others say
I'm here standing hollow
Falling away from me
Falling away from me
The day is here, fading
That's when I'm insane
I flirt with suicide
Sometimes kill the pain
I can always say
It's gonna be better tomorrow
Falling away from me
Falling away from me
Beating me down
Beating me, beating me
Down, down
Into the ground
Screaming some sound
Beating me, beating me
Down, down
Into the ground
Falling away from me
It's spinning round and round
Falling away from me
It's lost and can't be found
Falling away from me
It's spinning round and round
Falling away from me
Throw it down
Beating me down
Beating me, beating me
Down, down
Into the ground
Screaming some sound
Beating me, beating me
Down, down
Into the ground
Twisting me
Then walk away
So I pray
Go away
Life's falling away from me
It's falling away from me
Life's falling away from me
Fuck!
Beating me down
Beating me, beating me
Down, down
Into the ground
Screaming some sound
Beating me, beating me
Down, down
Into the ground
Falling away from me
Beating me beating me
Falling away from me
Down, down
Into the ground
Falling away from me
Screaming some sound
Beating me, beating me
Falling away from me
Down, down
Into the ground

Desert Rose - Sting
Artist: Sting
Song: Desert Rose
Year: 1999
Album: Brand New Day
I think my attraction to Eastern music came from two places. The band Queen and Indian food. I won't go out of my way for world music, but I won't turn it off when I hear it. I feel the same way about Sting. I'm not a huge fan of his, nor am I a huge fan of the Police. I do like a lot of songs from both though.
I will on the other hand, step over your mother to get to some Indian food. I was introduced to that by an ex and I have loved it ever since. I was afraid of the unknown in that area. What stopped my fears? And Indian buffet. This way I could sample everything and not be committed to anything. I'll just say that I've loved just about everything that I've sampled, except for the foods that incorporated something that I didn't already like. Seafood and mushrooms come to mind.
Like most people, my first wide exposure of this song was through car commercials. I didn't think much of the song at first, but after hearing it a few times, it grew on me. Sting had an album that no one would listen to, so his manager licensed songs to commercials. The tactic worked and this album sold like hotcakes. It also proved to be a lucrative business model for Moby.
Now that I'm writing about these things, I have to alter a previous line slightly. My first exposure to Eastern music was through George Harrison. This made the entire music scene palatable from an early age. I enjoy hearing artists branch out a bit more from their normal comfort zone. It makes for some of the most interesting pieces of music.
Lyrics:
I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in pain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand
I dream of fire
Those dreams are tied to a horse that will never tire
And in the flames
Her shadows play in the shape of a man's desire
This desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this
And as she turns
This way she moves in the logic of all my dreams
This fire burns
I realise that nothing's as it seems
I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in pain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand
I dream of rain
I lift my gaze to empty skies above
I close my eyes, this rare perfume
Is the sweet intoxication of her love
I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in pain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand
Sweet desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this
Sweet desert rose
This memory of Eden haunts us all
This desert flower, this rare perfume
Is the sweet intoxication of the fall

I'm Super - Big Gay Al
Artist: Big Gay Al
Song: I'm Super
Year: 1999
Album: South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut
While I've been busy today, I haven't forgotten about the once a day format on this site. I'll keep it brief.
This song always cheers me up. I love the entire movie. It has catchy and risque songs. There some toe tapping fun! I loved the juxtaposition of Big Gay Al singing at a military show. Brilliant!
Enjoy the song from the movie with clips from The Dark Knight. It actually fits in an eerie sort of way.
Lyrics:
Bombs are flying
People are dying
Children are crying
Politicians are lying too.
Cancer is killing
Texaco's spilling
The whole world's gone to hell
But how are you?
I'm super
Thanks for asking
All things considered
I couldn't be better I must say
I'm feeling super
No, nothing bugs me
Everything is super when you're
Don't you think I look cute in this hat
I'm so sorry
Mr. Cripple
But I just can't feel too bad for you right now.
Because I'm feeling
So insanely super
That even the fact that you can't walk
Can't bring me down
[Background singers:]
He's super
Thanks for asking
All things considered
He couldn't be better he must say
[Big Gay Al:]
I'm super
No, nothing bugs me
Everything is super when you're
Don't you think I look cute in this hat
These little pants, this matching tie
That I got at Vogue
I'm super
[Background singers:]
In the barracks and the trenches as well
[Big Gay Al:]
Stick 'em up.
[Background singers:]
Big Gay Al says do ask do tell
[Big Gay Al:]
Skittles
[Background singers:]
Yes he's super and he's proud to be gay
[Big Gay Al:]
OK
[Background singers:]
Everything is super when you're gay!
When you're gay!
