Cryptorchid - Marilyn Manson

Artist: Marilyn Manson
Song: Cryptorchid
Year: 1996
Album: Antichrist Superstar

This album would show the band Marilyn Manson at the peak of its music. The band would have more commercial success after this album, but the original fan base would never be stronger. The album and its themes hit the shelves at the perfect time. Alternative music fans were looking for something different to sink their teeth into and Marilyn Manson was more than happy to oblige.

I saw Marilyn Manson three different times on the touring for this album. The first time was the best. It was at the Riviera in Chicago, in October 1996. It was small and intimate. The mosh pit was awesome. The crowd hung on every word that Brian Warner said and sang. One of the highlights was "Cryptorchid" being played. It was really a showcase for Stephen Bier, better known by the stage name Madonna Wayne Gacy. This was his song and it showed when the spotlight fell on him during the keyboard solo.

The second time I saw them, in April 1997, was a little worse. The show itself was decent, but the venue was not. I saw this show in Normal, Illinois at a college. I thought of the irony of the town's name the second I purchased the tickets. The crowd was not into the show and the atmosphere suffered for it.

The third show was in the summer of 1997, in East Troy, Wisconsin at Alpine Valley. They were playing Ozzfest. The band was completely out of its element there. Marilyn Manson played in the afternoon sun, in an outdoor venue. The crowd that was there for the Black Sabbath reunion hated the Marilyn Manson. The crowd started throwing chunks of sod, and anything else they could find, up on stage. The set was cut short to a few songs and they stormed off stage.

Lyrics:
Each time I make my mother cry
An angel dies and falls from heaven
When the boy is still a worm
It's hard to learn the number seven

But when they get to you
It's the first thing that they do

Each time I look outside my mother dies
I feel my back is changing shape
When the worm consumes the boy
It's never ever considered rape

When they get to you
It's the first thing that they do

Prick your finger, it is done
The moon has now eclipsed the sun
The angel has spread his wings
The time has come for bitter things

Prick your finger, it is done
The moon has now eclipsed the sun
The angel has spread his wings
The time has come for bitter things

Prick your finger, it is done
The moon has now eclipsed the sun
The angel has spread his wings
The time has come for bitter things

Prick your finger, it is done
The moon has now eclipsed the sun
The angel has spread his wings
The time has come for bitter things

Prick your finger, it is done
The moon has now eclipsed the sun
The angel has spread his wings
The time has come for bitter things
